It’s appalling to me that the majority of Americans didn’t approve of interracial marriage until 1995. We need to recognize that America has been, and continues to be, a *profoundly* racist country.
Also interesting that the government was way out ahead of public opinion on interracial marriage and significantly behind on same-sex marriage. The government is supposed to protect the rights of its citizens whether or not the majority wants those rights protected. That’s not how we’re behaving these days.
